Life In The Slums

I spend some time in Kibera and Mathare, the informal settlements, a.k.a. slums, of Nairobi.
Don’t be scared. The setting may be shocking but the people are welcoming. True survivors.

I’m going to watch this video everytime I feel the need to bitch or whine about something that is probably really stupid and unimportant. If people can be happy living in such an environment, we’re all really, really spoiled in the Western Hemisphere.

    Those kids are ADORABLE, btw.

I watch videos like this all day long at work. (vids about what’s happening in other parts of the world) In fact, I had just finished watching a video of Hamas using kids as human sheilds and I was trying to relax afterwards by checking Twitter.

Somehow its so different when you see someone you know in the video. A whole other level of reality.

I feel as though I will be buying you a cold beer or whiskey upon your return.

ps, the slow-mo special effects “booty shot” must be a guy thing eh? hahaha

My family is from Chile and although it’s not considered a “Third World Country”, I’ve seen people living in almost the exact same conditions. What always surprises me is how happy and content these people actually are! Despite their circumstances, they still have a smile on their faces. Kinda puts things into perspective huh?

Nice work on the vid chico.

    CC.

Thanks. Credit for the song goes to Diplo, who never gave me permission. Thanks Diplo, I knew you’d take one for the team.

Thanks Carmen. It very much puts things into perspective.

It will be my pleasure, treasure.

We can talk about world politics and human rights issues, or unicorns and rainbows. Either one works for me.
