Oh, Colonialism…

Am I the only one who feels mildly uncomfortable/ queasy at the thought of going to one of those resorts that is a on British Colonial island? Or am I over-thinking things? Out of curiousity, I looked up that resort Sandals that they always advertise….and it appears that you can pay for a room that comes w. its own butler…who also happens to be a native of the island. Sort of made me feel…icky.

Kenyans wear shorts on the coast, at Mombassa where it is regularly above 30 C (about 90 F) and very humid. It really is an old British Colonial throwback. The British wore pants and therefore in wanting to be as morally upright and superior as the British. . . pants it was. Shorts are considered for kids mainly.

That is odd, though, that no-one wears shorts there. I do find it to be cooler to wear long pants, personally, because the sun isn’t glaring off my shiny white legs and blinding me.

The best part of an African dance class I took years ago, it was all ages, from 4 to 70, a tribe of ritual and community, and rooted drums oh drums. Thanks so much for sharing. feel like i can be on the adventure…
